R. v. R.B. – August 2022

Robbery

Our client was charged with a robbery where a male entered a liquor store and stole liquor before threatening employees who confronted him. We cross-examined the officer who relied on security footage to identify the male and got her to admit that she had only had minor previous dealings with our client and that the footage lacked detail. We also advanced a novel argument at trial that the theft had been complete before the threats of violence and therefore there was no robbery. Ultimately the judge agreed on the identification issue and acquitted our client.

Result: Acquittal
