R. v. C.K. – August 2023

Unlawful Confinement

Our client was charged along with her boyfriend of unlawful confinement of two women. The women claimed they were kidnapped and being used as prostitutes. Our cross examination showed that they went to the house willingly, were regularly taking and sharing drugs with our client, and had multiple opportunities to leave without consequences. The judge relied on a particular courtroom exchange where we got the complainant to admit that she had attempted to extort our client for thousands of dollars in return for dropping the charges.
