R. v. J.H. – July 2024
Sexual Assault
Our client was accused of sexually assaulting a friend. Our client was in Canada on a study permit and so faced deportation proceedings upon a conviction. We convinced Crown of our client’s good character and his true remorse and desire to plead guilty. Upon pleading guilty we secured a conditional discharge – a very unusual sentence for sexual assault – that prevented our client from getting a criminal record and allowed him to remain in Canada.
