R. v. D.D. – September 2022
Public Mischief
Our client was charged with two counts of public mischief for her participation in two different displays of civil disobedience by blocking traffic during climate protests. Crown counsel was seeking a criminal record and a $2000 fine. At sentencing we outlined to the judge our client’s compelling concerns about climate change and her outstanding service to her community through volunteering. We argued that a criminal record would cause her to lose her employment and be unable to visit her father who was buried in the United States. The judge agreed and discharged our client.
